My First Communicating Science Live Presentation Experience

Hello and you know what?

So on this episode, your girl did it! So Thursday made it exactly a week your girl made her first live presentation for my Communicating Science module. I presented on a novel scientific advancement: Near-infrared (NIR) vision relevant or Irrelevant?

Basically, my presentation focused on a research discovery by Ma et al. Well, I had a wonderful start, that got my instructors and my mates commenting positively about my ‘hook’ (introductory explanation, which involved me turning on and off the light of the seminar room). And my presentation was good based on my judgement, comments from my audience, although my instructors and module leaders have final say. I managed to handle my nerves, and gave a good perspective to the research I presented on. Also, I used the question and answer section to shed more light on the topic, as the initial presentation time was quite limited.

So I was one of six students in my group. So this was basically a component of the module assessment. The assessment, which is to test our ability to make scientific presentation to a wide range of audience, which include Science majors and interested members of the public without a Science background.  I will say myself and my group members each gave our various topics our best. I did well, I also managed to listen to my mates and which gave perspective to areas of improvement. I applied a great hook to introduce my topic, and it opened my eyes to the importance, as we were thought during lecture sessions. My course mates in my group did their very best too. Overall, we put in good effort to make our various presentations good.

The presentation was a great opportunity for me, considering that public speaking is a great communication and transferable skill to acquire, especially when climbing the corporate and career ladder.

This is one of many of such opportunity, I am already seeing the importance of all that I am learning on this module, as I recently had to make an elevator pitch and it was good too. So I am happy for all of it.

So your girl has been on fire 🔥! Especially in the past week.

So away from me, how is your week going? Making waves? Breaking barriers? Comment below.
